Our Words and Ideas: Freshman Year
Car
Engine Sputters-
Turn again.
This time, roaring to life
Inhale one. two. three.
Then, the pressure of life is like a balloon
Popping from the air inside.
Gas Pedal, motor whirring faster and faster
Strange comfort in the blurry view
Green trees bathed in sunlight
Every hiccup in the engine,
A Warning.
Pedal flattened by the bottom of the shoe-
Disregard
The perfect. yellow. lines.
Hands gripping the steering wheel
Smooth road, goes on and on.
But suddenly
The sunlight is blinding.
Too far and Too fast…
Brakes screech as skid marks imprint onto the road
Too late.
Collision.
The Glass shatters into a million tiny pieces-
Sparkling
Like pieces of a diamond.
Bright colors slowly fade away to
A dark, cloudy night.
Cars battle with opposing force
Then Nothing.
