Warm Winter

Whistles blow, parents cheer, and kids play.

Fall soccer, the start of the season.

Crisp, cold air threatened to give frostbite to their fingers and noses.

But the bright sun provided just enough warmth .

No sight of clouds in the sky.

Kids ran, exhausted, tired, but having fun.

Their play was paused by the short screaming of two whistle blows, concluding the first half.

Parents chatted with each other, proud of their sons, while staying bundled up to keep warm.

The whistle blows again and adrenaline rushed through the kids’ bodies.

One kid, with firey red hair had a chance to show his skill.

Then everyone heard the whip and crack of the net as the ball strikes it in the perfect spot.

The whistle screams, as do the parents.

The kids start again, as the game is not yet over.

Then, cold, wet pinpricks fell on the kids, just like the world had stopped, the kids looked up.

And it was cold, flakey snow.

The kids cheered after that game, not because of who won, but because the miracle of snow.
