“A Bunny to Waste”

Two friends, both neighbors,
Hanging out after school
On the fifth day of the week.

The emotion changes from just two people hanging out to curiosity of the bunny.

A father of one of them,
Questioning their knowledge
About a small, fluff lurking around.
They searched their best
In the basement they observe.
But no luck—no hint at all.

The emotion changes from curiosity to excitement.

However, the father,
Ecstatic and startled,
Had found it a bunny.
Brown, silky,
And supple, as if it was a rug.
Keeping it could be best—but is it worth?

The emotion changes from excitement to joy.

The first of the weeks
In a new red and white cage,
The bunny was kept and fed.
The peer of the son
Had helped with care
And too thought it was his own.

The emotion changes from joy to sadness.

Two weeks past, the decision.
Letting a friend just met go,
Sad indeed.

The emotion changes from sadness to a kind of disappointment.

The son and the father,
Following its last steps of its journey
Into an unanticipated demise.
The cute fluff, nowhere to found.

Those weeks spent about it—
It was a waste like the care it was given.
