“Safety word” ​ Free Verse Poem

I love you,
Is the first thing that comes to my mind
When we argue.

Because i don't know,
If that would make you come or go
Young or old
But I do know that I love you.

On some days we clash,
And bash each other without even thinking about it.
We do it all for a reason we don’t quite understand sometimes.
So I demand to hear the safety word-
I love you!

Because yes I have put myself in your shoes
And you see
I have your heart,
But you have my soul

And I promise no matter of our highs and our lows
We will continue to mold each other's mind.
Because I'm his
And he's mine

And maybe when we the safety word,
Everything will be fine.
But for now, I love you
Becomes
Love you
To
Ily.

And I don't know why but,
We get so quiet sometimes -
It kills me to hear silence and not your beautiful ideas flowing out your mouth.
The quietness echoes
To even shouts across the room.

And its crazy how one minute we can be laughing
The next we can be crying about,
Nothing.

So we blame each other
We take our part,
Like it’s a play.

But why do we play along?
When we don’t even know the lyrics
And it’s not the same song

So we can't compose it.
But we try to compromise another,
Safety word.

I do love you honestly
But it hurts me
To see your hurt
It makes me feel more uncomfortable
Than a hood girl in the suburbs.

I just want to see you smile,
You're my moon child
A piece of art.
You paint your face
And everyday I get a taste,
Of what it is like in your eyes.

I'm just mesmerized in what you see,
And I wish I can memorize everything you say
Because I'd pay for thoughts like that.
You're a dime but you have
A billion dollar thoughts.

So while I just get lost with 3 words,
I want you to know,
I love you.
