Our Words and Ideas: Freshman Year
“Batmobile”
The monstrous wheels felt weightless in my palm,
The grooves of the plastic hugging my thumb.
Such a happy toy, but my mind felt so numb.
A feeling welled up, childhood days of the past gone.
A heavy stack of paperwork, a mountain of stress,
How did toys and action figures turn into this?
Days of no worry, days of bliss,
All leading up to one decision, one huge mess.
Glaring at the toy,
A field of fingerprints,
Reminisce on the days at the park, the days of innocence.
Now I am a man, but once I was a boy,
Everyone started somewhere.
I stare at you, rain in my eyes,
Your headlights stare back, are you also going to cry?
Because of where I am now, life is unfair,
You look equipped for battle, I’ll battle like hell.
I used to drive you fast,
Now I’ll miss your windshield, I’ll see all from a different glass.
And spend my days here in a cell.
